Canada is a large country with many cultures and cultural issues. Addictions range from gasoline and solvent sniffing to high end drugs.

Drug Rehabilitation Policies In Canada

A provincially funded drug rehabilitation center in Canada use mainly a "harm reduction" approach to treatment. This means that if you are being treated for a drug addiction you could be prescribed a drug with a supposed less harmful effect.

Many provincially funded treatment centers in Canada used to use a total abstinence approach to addiction but treatment was too expensive and involved as the detoxification process and withdrawal procedure takes a long time and is quite costly. It is easier to hand someone another pill.

If affordable, a private treatment facility may be a better option.  Ask questions at any type of treatment center and see which approach they use.
